ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Dave Serlo's path to the corner office at PSCU started with NCUA. Serlo joined NCUA in 1970 as an examiner in the Pittsburgh office. He then moved to a Harrisburg, Pa. office and eventually to NCUA's headquarters. He did everything from controller, to helping manage the NCUSIF, and the Central Liquidity Facility. In 1983 he answered an ad in the Wall Street Journal for an executive to manage a credit union credit card organization. That year he became the first PSCU full-time employee. PSCU was formed in 1977, but up until the early `80s it contracted out for all its services. Serlo came in when PSCU decided to start offering its own homegrown services. Asked about his management style, Serlo said any CEO has to have confidence in his or her staff. "I would characterize it (management style) as one of delegating and putting a great deal of confidence and respect in my managers. We spend the time to work to bring in the right people and see their talents used correctly," said Serlo.
