A new global policy report from the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research found about 45 percent of colon cancer cases and 38 percent of breast cancer cases in the United States can be prevented by maintaining diet and exercise, and through weight management.
A panel of 23 experts made recommendations that pushed for all sectors of society -- including employers, governments, schools, the media and individuals -- to place a greater emphasis on public health. Those recommendations ranged from low-level moves like pulling unhealthy food from vending machines in schools and workplaces, to national initiatives like widespread walking and bicycling paths to encourage physical activity.
