Retirement confidence amid mild economic improvment

Doing a good job?
Worker confidence levels in doing a good job of preparing financially for retirement:

  • 21% "Very"
  • 43% "Somewhat"
  • 19% "Not too"
  • 21% "Not at all"

16% of workers now say they are very confident about having a comfortable retirement, well below the high of 27% observed in 2007.

Retiree confidence about financial aspects of retirement shows little change from last year. The percentages saying they are very confident about having enough money for basic expenses (33% in 2010 and 34% in 2009), medical expenses (23% in 2010 and 25% in 2009), and long-term care expenses (13% in 2010 and 15% in 2009) are statistically unchanged from last year.
