A rift between drugstore chain Walgreens and pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts has left patients in need of affordable prescriptions.
Walgreens reported Monday a record 125,000 customers have signed up for its drug discount program, and the retailer plans to offer more incentives for filling prescriptions to patients that no longer have in-network coverage after negotiations fell through with Express Scripts.
Walgreens filled 88 million prescriptions last year under an agreement with the PBM. But pricing talks halted on Jan. 1 when Walgreens decided not to renew the contract.
