More jobs in the higher education sector became available during the third quarter of 2012 as this sector is outpacing growth of overall U.S. jobs, according to a new report from HigherEdJobs, a source for jobs and career information in academia.

The report also finds that the market share of higher education jobs in comparison to all U.S. jobs rose but only at an incremental rate in the third quarter. This growth has been apparent for several years. Job advertisements in higher education increased at a moderate pace in the third quarter of 2012, as well.

Based on an analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data by HigherEdJobs, the availability of jobs at colleges and universities rose 2.2 percent during the third quarter, and overall job growth grew by 1.4 percent for a difference of 0.8 percentage points. During the third quarter of 2011, growth rates of higher education and overall jobs experienced the same difference.
