Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said neither he normembers of his administration anticipated the magnitude of theflaws that hobbled the startup of the federal health-carewebsite.

“I don’t think anybody anticipated the degree of problems thatyou had on healthcare.gov,” Obama said in an interview with FoxNews. Now, “it’s working the way it’s supposed to.”

Obama didn’t answer a question about whether he should fireSecretary of Health and Human Service Kathleen Sebelius because ofthe mishandled start.

“I promise you that we hold everybody up and down the lineaccountable,” he said. “My main priority right now is making sureit delivers for the American people.”

The Affordable Care Act, which mainly took full effect Jan. 1,marks the largest U.S. expansion of health insurance in more than40 years. About 3 million have signed up for coverage throughgovernment-run insurance exchanges. The law also expandedeligibility in some state-run Medicaid programs for the poor.

Obama also defended his administration’s initial public responsefollowing the deadly attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound inBenghazi, Libya.

He said that while some of the information put out at first wasinaccurate because of the confusion “in the heat of the moment,”the full story has been told by administration officials andthrough hearings in Congress.

“We revealed to the American people exactly what we understoodat the time,” he said. “In the aftermath, what became clear, wasthat the security was lax, that not all the precautions that neededto be take were taken.”

Obama has made it a tradition for his presidency to sit for aninterview with the network broadcasting the Nation FootballLeague’s Super Bowl game, which is being carried this year by 21stCentury Fox Inc.’s Fox TV.
