Some cities just make it harder on women who are trying to get by.

The handicaps that women face in trying to make enough money to last a lifetime are bigger than those faced by men. Despite the fact that women have nearly achieved educational parity with men—in fact, 24/7 Wall Street said that women are more likely to have graduated from both high school and college—they're less well represented in industries that look for college degrees and generally pay more as a result.
