Every job has a risk of injury or illness, but some come with a higher degree than others. Naturally, some of the more labor-intensive occupations like construction work come to mind. But if you think a retail salesperson or a registered nurse as well, you'll be surprised to learn that they had more injuries and illnesses in 2018 than construction laborers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 2.8 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported by private industry employers in 2018, unchanged from 2017. Within the private industry, there were 900,380 reported injuries or illnesses that caused a worker to miss at least one day of work in 2018, virtually unchanged from 2017.
