Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it will add 5,750 jobs and invest $4.8 billion in its U.S. factories as part of a new contract deal with the United Auto Workers union.

In exchange for an agreement to create 5,100 union jobs in the U.S., General Motors will hire thousands of less expensive employees and try to replace some longtime workers.

Workers at a Ford Motor Co. plant near Kansas City, Mo., have voted to let their union leaders call a strike against the company.
