How many of your employees would you estimate are looking for a new job?

"I've been an employee of the State for more than 20 years, and not much has changed since I first started. They still don't like to give raises, and their processes are slow and exhausting. I am personally looking for another, higher paying position in the private sector, and just in my division alone, I know of another six people who are doing the same. I couldn't even guess how many other divisions are in the same boat." -- Anonymous, Supervisor, State of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn.

"I would say that within our organization, we probably have some employees that are inactively inactively aware of what's available outside the company and who would be willing to move. They might be keeping their ears open for other opportunities that they would entertain if something came their way, but I don't think I have anybody who's actively looking right now." -- Larry D., Customer service, data processing manager, OnTarget Mailing Services, Denver

"For some reason, our office has experienced a lot of turnover in the past year. Since I'm the office manager, nobody would ever tell me they planned on leaving, but I would guess that at least five employees are searching for jobs in other offices, and some might even be looking for a different career altogether." -- Anonymous, Dental office manager, Denver
