May is Disability Insurance Awareness Month

The LIFE Foundation is sponsoring Disability Insurance Awareness Month in May to encourage workers to take action to protect their paychecks in the event of a disability.

"This year, our goal is to move the disability insurance conversation away from negative thoughts about disabling illnesses and injuries and toward a positive topic everyone can relate to: their paycheck," Marvin Feldman, CLU, ChFC, RFC, president and CEO of the LIFE Foundation, said in a press release.

According to a survey by the Foundation, half of working Americans have less than one month's savings set aside to get them through a disability, and one-quarter would encounter financial difficulties immediately.

The campaign will center on a microsite, www.protectyourpaycheck.org, which will include a "tool kit" for brokers and agents to create their own campaign including flyers and customizable news releases.
