Innovate this

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The chilling horror stories fade away every year about this time.

Sure, I’ll hear plenty more over the next few days, but they can’t compete with the sheer presence of so many brokers, carriers and all the supporting players who join us every year, undaunted by the political storms raging around us.

That’s because seeing and talking with so many of you shows me, clearly, that you’re here to stay. And it goes without saying that to actually make that happen, we need to change. Because everything else already has. Or is about to.

What we need is innovation.

And we want to do our part as a brand to not only highlight the innovation we see today, but to foster tomorrow’s innovations, as well. That’s one reason why we are launching the Broker Innovation Lab, a program that showcases brokers that are transforming the way we do business.

I know it sounds like a sales pitch — and, hell, maybe it is (don’t judge). But as we’ve all long lamented, there’s no farm league for brokers anymore. And while I might not be proposing some late-night television school for insurance sales, I am suggesting we get together and figure out how we innovate our way through reform.

Maybe it’s something as small as a change in how you communicate with your clients. Or maybe it’s as big as blowing up your entire business model and going retail, or fee only. I don’t know. I don’t have all the answers. But I know a lot of you do.

We want to work with companies interested in driving innovation. And talk to brokers who are living it.

Steve Jobs once said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” Which do you want to be?

I can’t wait to hear your stories.

Have a great show.
