President Trump secured significant health care policy changes still in place today, including efforts to bring more transparency to prices charged by hospitals and paid by insurers, but he still wants to repeal and replace the ACA.
The House and Senate have until Saturday, Sept. 30 to pass a spending deal, which means congressional gridlock is poised to at least temporarily shut down certain health programs, like the drug price negotiations set to begin Oct. 1.
The three political appointees share an understanding of what it means to lead the Health and Human Services agency that makes life-or-death decisions every day that affect millions of Americans.
However, the now Senate-approved bill has exempted these "priority" health-related givebacks: funding for research into next-generation COVID vaccines; long COVID research; and efforts to improve the pharmaceutical supply chain..
The rush in some states to ban abortion after the overturn of Roe v. Wade is resulting in fewer medical services - regular exams, breast cancer screenings, and contraception - available for all women living in those states.
Republicans have repeatedly warned they would hold raising the federal debt ceiling hostage unless Democrats negotiated changes to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
Republicans who oppose abortion have new talking points — birth control will remain easily available in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision overturning the federal right to abortion, and when Democrats say otherwise, they are just trying to scare voters.
In his new role, Xavier Becerra wants to stop arguing about how to best reform our health care system and just start taking action.
