Could milk carton appeals be next?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced a partnership with 7-Eleven minimarts to promote the health insurance enabled by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Pitches to customers to sign up for coverage will appear at the bottom of sales receipts, according to The Hill.
The Hill said 7,000 7-Elevens nationwide will participate in the campaign to reach out to convenience store customers to convince them to buy health insurance through the public exchanges.
The concept is designed to target folks who might not have a bank account, or, as HHS said, the "financially underserved."
Those who follow the directions on their receipts can apply for coverage via the mobile payment company PayNearMe. The service enables customer payments in popular retail chains that include 7-Eleven and Family Dollar, The Hill reported.
"Putting these reminders at the bottom of PayNearMe receipts will help get health coverage information into the hands of traditionally hard-to-reach consumers," HHS said in a statement.
The Hill said the 7-Eleven partnership is but one of the initiatives the Obama administration has launched to boost plan enrollment as the Dec. 15 enrollment deadline for Jan. 1, 2015, coverage approaches.
