Employers and benefits advisors who want to know what officials at the Employee Benefits Security Administration really think now have a new chance to find out.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division is organizing a free, online forum that will feature speakers from EBSA as well as speakers from other DOL agencies.

The division will start the two-day event May 6.

Karen Lloyd, an EBSA division chief, is on the speaker list for a panel discussion on DOL efforts to revive its opinion letters program, which can help employers and their advisors determine what they can and cannot do.

Another EBSA official, Susana Jackson, will talk about benefits continuation under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, or COBRA.

Matthew Lemons, an EBSA district manager, will participate in a panel on the DOL self-audit program, which may help employers detect and address compliance problems early.

The event will also include sessions on topics such as the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, the law that governs the benefits rules for workers who take leave from employers to serve on active duty in the military.

The Eventbrite signup form for the event shows that the division has hosted 148 events over 10 years and has 6,325 Eventbrite followers.
