Our latest conversation is with Deb Ault, better known as Nurse Deb, president of AIMM. Nurse Deb attributes her dedication to change to the inherent nature of nursing: being the last line of defense and a holistic advocate for patients. She stands on the shoulders of other patient advocacy pioneers and believes her unique contribution has been tapping into the independent advisor/consultant market to bring education and resources, maintaining that a patient is a patient, regardless of group size.

Nurse Deb discusses the ongoing challenge of slow acceptance to change, which is primarily rooted in employers' financial decisions. While she sees a shift within the advisor community, the problem remains getting the patient message to employers who are not yet upset enough with the status quo to demand something different: "Until people are pissed off, they're not going to change."

We also touch on the reality of the broken U.S. health care system. No,the U.S. doesn't have the best health care system in the world, an idea that remains a large misconception formany people outside of this industry. Nurse Deb explains the key to motivating change is not to discourage people, but to equip them with facts and objective quality scores. And as always, she shares words of wisdom for advisors out there looking to fight the good fight.

Don't worry, we also get to know Nurse Deb on a more personal level. We chat about how she spend her free time, her most recent vacation (you'll be jealous!), and some of the hidden treasures of Columbus, Ohio!
