Workers' Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., President/CEO Frederick D. Healey has been honored with the Boulder Award for his outstanding contributions to civic life through the use of public communications. The Boulder Award, named after Fichburg's distinctive Rollstone Boulder on the Upper Common, signifies the rock-solid achievement of its recipients. WCU has more than $350 million in assets and serves over 56,000 members. North Island Financial Credit Union, Chula Vista, Calif., has been awarded the 2000 Peter Barron Stark & Associates Award for Workplace Excellence. The award is presented based on results of a 100-question employee opinion survey distributed throughout the company. It is designed to help the management teams gain useful insights about the strengths and weaknesses of the organization. NIFCU's overall averages were 14% higher than the PBS Overall Benchmark. The surveys are based on comparing approximately 92 organizations and the opinions of over 30,000 employees. Sidney Federal Credit Union, Sidney, N.Y., has received the "2000 Partnership Excellence Award" from Clarke American, a manufacturer of checks. The award was in recognition of the credit union's outstanding commitment to building a true partnership based on mutual goals of growth and superior member service. SFCU has $153 million in assets and serves 47,919 members. Credit Union 1, Anchorage, Alaska, has recognized a few employees for their dedication. Nancy Roman received the "President's Award" for hiring and retaining quality personnel in a tight labor market. In addition, the following employees were recognized: Annette Linehan, "Manager of the Year for her administrative assistance to a statewide branch system; Penny Furnish, "Boss of the Year" for her abilities to guide, coach, and motivate her employees; Nicki Eshleman, "Branch Manager of the Year" for successfully operating a remote branch while exceeding loan and operational goals; Alana Wooten, "Assistant Branch Manager of the Year" for her consistent professionalism and positive attitude assisting the members and co workers; and Earnest Howard, "Zip Zaber Award" in gratitude for his dedication to teamwork, cooperation and contributions to the community. Oregon Metro Federal Credit Union, Eugene, Ore., has received three Golden Mirror Awards from the Credit Union Executives Society. The Golden Mirror Awards recognize excellence in marketing design, execution and results at the nation's credit unions. OMFCU won the following awards in its asset division: first place, Point of Sale category; second place Logos category; and second place in the coordinated campaigns category. Khalsa Design Group, a full service corporate interiors and integrated marketing design firm, worked with the credit union to create the campaign. California Coast Credit Union, San Diego, has been presented the 2000 Peter Barron Stark & Associates "Award for Workplace Excellence". The award is based solely on employee feedback and measures employee responses to categories including communication, values, work environment, motivation, honesty intergrity, ethics, commitment to quality and service and benefits and compensation. The award is presented to those companies that exceed 80% overall employee satisfaction, or improve their corporate culture by 8% over a previous opinion survey. CCCU serves over 55,000 members. Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, Phoenix, Ariz., Education Specialist Marsha Lunden has received top honors form the National Youth Involvement Board for her work with youth in the community. Lunden was recognized for reaching the largest number of students, nearly 18,000 in public and private schools, through a program designed to generate awareness in young people about financial responsibility. Desert Schools FCU serves 216,000 members and has $1.2 billion in assets. Wescom Credit Union, Pasadena, Calif., has been awarded a Beautification Award by the Planning Commission for the City of Signal Hill. Wescom received the award as a result of its efforts to renovate an abandoned building and make it one of the most appealing in the city. The formerly abandoned building is the current site for the Signal Hill CU branch. Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, St. Paul, Minn., President/CEO Kyle Markland has been recognized for the second year by CityBusiness in its "Banking and Finance Heavy Hitters" spotlight. Markland was one of 36 influential members of the financial services sector chosen for "their leadership in the local finance industry and the Twin Cities business community. Markland was the only credit union leader to be featured. Affinity Plus FCU has $565 million in assets and serves 84,704 members. Royal Credit Union, Eau Claire, Wis., has honored six RCU members with the "Lifetime Volunteer Award". Chris Clark; Dennis Clark; Bob Hartmann; Genevieve Klingbeil; Bob Klingbeil; and Sharon Wundrow have all been recognized for sharing over 5,500 hours of their time to the community. To become a Lifetime Volunteer a total of 240 hours and five years of service need to be given to the community. RCU now has a total of 25 Lifetime Volunteers.
