St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H., has raised $2,500 through its community outreach efforts to support the Jump$tart Coalition for personal financial literacy. The mission of the Jump$tart program is to evaluate the financial literacy of young adults; develop, and encourage financial literacy standards for grades K-12; and to promote the teaching of personal finance. In addition, St. Mary's employees have also volunteered in excess of 600 hours toward the program. Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, has donated $2,000 to support efforts to find a cure for multiple sclerosis. A large group of PFCU employees laced up their sneakers for the six to eight-mile MS Walk. This year the credit union became a site sponsor for the event. Monies raised through the MS Walk go to support service programs for over 8,400 area residents living with multiple sclerosis, as well as vital medical research into the cause and cure of this disease. Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, Texas, has partnered with Terra-Genesis Housing, Inc. and the Consumer Credit Counseling Center to support a 25-week financial literacy program designed to encourage the importance of financial stability to the underserved residents of Oak Manor/Oak Village housing communities. Residents including youth and adults attended a series of comprehensive seminars on a variety of financial topics ranging from establishing credit to budgeting. After 12 weeks residents will have the opportunity to take advantage of the credit union's products and services related to topics covered in the seminars. Upon completion of the entire program, participating residents were able to apply for loan products.
