WASHINGTON-According to the year-end Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports filed by the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) of CUNA, the credit union PAC disbursed $1.3 million of the $1.6 million it took in during 2001. Campaign contributions should pick up as elections draw closer this year. CULAC had just over $300,000 on hand at the close of last year. A few members of the bankruptcy reform conference committee scored big with CULAC in the month of December. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) received $2,000; Representative Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) received $2,500; and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is also on the Appropriations Committee, received $2,000. Additionally, House Judiciary Committee Member Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) received $2,500. Financial Services Committee Members Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), also an International Relations Committee member, and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), who is also on the Small Business Committee, were given $3,000 and $4,500, respectively.
