According to Rob Jackson, co-founder and CEO of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation, only 1.5 million pets are insured in the United States. "When your realize that there are about 170 million cats and dogs in the country, about 100 million of which are pets, I think the number of insured can easily reach 5 to 7 million," he argues.
And, according to JoAnne Novak, vice president of new business development and employee benefits for Hartville Group, another pet insurance provider, 70 million households own either a dog or a cat.
