California brokerage firm Heffernan Insurance Brokers announced this week a new insurance program called Insurance on the Playa, which offers coverage for participants of the Burning Man event.
Burning Man is a week-long annual event held in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The event starts on the Monday before, and ends on Labor Day. Participants describe it as a radical self-expression event.
Historically, participants have found securing insurance for the Burning Man event to be a challenge, the brokerage firm reports. Many brokers and carriers were not familiar with the Burning Man event and therefore had a difficult time understanding how to underwrite the exposures.
