PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island is extending the hours for unemployed residents to file jobless claims after Tropical Storm Irene disrupted phone and computer service around the state.
|The state's Department of Labor and Training says it will open its automated telephone service at noon Wednesday instead of 3 p.m. The department's call center will extend operational hours on Tuesday and Thursday until 5 p.m.
|Also, career centers in West Warwick and South Kingstown will extend their normal hours of operation to help unemployed Rhode Islanders who lost phone and computer service during the storm.
