NEW YORK (AP) — Swiss drugmaker Roche said Monday the Food and Drug Administration approved a test it developed that detects the hepatitis B virus in blood.
Roche said the test can detect an antigen that indicates acute or recent hepatitis B infection. The test is designed to run on Roche's cobas diagnostic system.
Hepatitis B is spread through blood and bodily fluids. Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, muscle and joint aches, nausea and vomiting, and jaundice. People who develop the chronic form of the disease face higher risks of liver cancer and cirrhosis.
