The U.S. Department of Labor is awarding a $3.4 million grantto enlist re-employment and support services to approximately 850workers who were laid off in July because of the closure of theGoodyear Tire and Rubber Co. facility in Union City, Tenn.

"This grant from the federal government will fund training andother services for former Goodyear workers who lost their jobsthrough no fault of their own," says Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "By updating and enhancing their skills, theseworkers will be better prepared for good jobs in Tennessee'sgrowing industries."

Along with training and support services, the grant, which isunder the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development,also helps these workers find employment in Tennessee, as a resultof their eligibility for Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.
