CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois added 30,000 jobs in October, but thestate's unemployment rate still rose slightly as more joblesspeople re-entered the workforce, state officials said Friday.
|The state's unemployment rate is 10.1 percent, slightly aboveSeptember's 10 percent. Illinois added jobs in nine of 12industries measured by officials. But the re-entry of joblessworkers to find seasonal work and renew job searches drove up therate, officials said.
|Unemployment figures are calculated with the number of joblesspeople who are actively seeking work.
|The professional and business services industry added 10,600jobs, the most of any industry. Trade, transportation and utilitiesadded 5,400 jobs, and educational and health services added5,300.
|Only government, mining and other services lost jobs inOctober.
|The state has added about 65,800 total jobs this year and about108,000 jobs since the start of last year, after almost two yearsof job losses and a peak unemployment rate of 11.2 percent.
|"Illinois' economy adding 30,000 jobs is encouraging during thischallenging period of economic recovery," said Jay Rowell, directorof the Illinois Department of Employment Security. "Consumerconfidence is critical to a growing economy, and a growing economycreates jobs."
