Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis is making available nearly $100 million through the Workforce Innovation Fund to back employment and training services.

The Workforce Innovation Fund invests in programs that support, evaluate and enhance work force investment strategies, especially among the vulnerable populations. A solicitation for grant applications is available in Friday's Federal Register.

"The mission of the public work force system is to find good jobs for everyone," says Secretary Solis. "These grants will significantly enhance the capacity of our public work force system by identifying, evaluating and expanding successful programs."

Eligible applicants include state work force agencies, local work force investment boards and organizations that are qualified to apply for WIA Section 166 grants, which will be administered by the DOL, working closely with the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services. The DOL will providing technical assistance to grantees during the life of the grants and share program evaluation results with grantees as well as stakeholders in work force, education and human services sements.
