The American public is divided on whether to repeal all of theAffordable Care Act, or just the mandate requiring everyone to buyhealth insurance.

According to a Gallup last month, 47 percent of Americans favorrepealing the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,while 42 percent want it kept in place. The views run along partylines, with Republicans strongly in favor of repeal and the largemajority of Democrats wanting the law kept in place.

The poll also suggests half of Americans say the federalgovernment should be responsible for making sure all Americans havehealth insurance, which pins the individual mandate, thecenterpiece of health reform law, in the middle of a dividednation.
