ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Democrats in New York's Senate are pushing for an increase in the minimum wage.
Sen. Jeffrey Klein and other members of the influential Independent Democratic Conference are releasing a report Tuesday that claims the measure could generate $600 million in economic activity and create 4,800 jobs.
The report is based on raising the minimum wage to $8.50 an hour from the current $7.25

The proposal is also supported by the Assembly's Democratic majority.
But the Republicans who control the Senate agree with business groups that the measure is unaffordable and will eliminate jobs.
