RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Several North Carolina House members got a crash course on the state's unemployment insurance system as they tried to figure out how to better discourage improper or fraudulent payments.
The first meeting of the House Unemployment Fraud Task Force on Tuesday included presentations by the state's unemployment insurance agency and Gay Gilbert, the administrator for the federal Office of Unemployment Insurance.
Gilbert told the committee her office is working with all the states to reduce the improper payment rate below 10 percent of cases.
