NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Wellness program administrator Healthways Inc. said Monday it acquired Ascentia Health Care Solutions of Philadelphia.

Ascentia provides technical help to health care providers, including a Web application that helps identify and manage preventative care services, and an application that helps manage care for chronically ill patients.

Healthways said the privately-held company supports and promotes health management, patient programs, payer strategies and physician practice enhancement programs. It works with Renaissance Medical Management, one of the largest associations of physician practices in the Philadelphia area.

Healthways did not disclose terms of the deal.

Shares of Healthways lost 23 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $6.54 in morning trading Monday, as the markets traded broadly lower.
