The U.S. Department of Labor is distributing 90 grants of more than $20 million, which are being awarded through the DOL's Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, for job training and support services for more than 11,000 veterans.
"Americans who have served their country should not find themselves without a home," says Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "The grants announced today will help these heroes find good jobs and take us one step closer to the goal of ending veteran homelessness altogether."
These grants are part of second- and third-year awards to state and local work force investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations after showing satisfactory performance over the last year. Each grant is being offered through HVRP, and some are explicitly set aside for previously incarcerated veterans, homeless female veterans and veterans with families.

HVRP grants offer occupational, classroom and on-the-job training along with job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services. Grantees are expected to make the most out of available assistance and find good jobs for veterans by coordinating efforts and resources with the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Health and Human Services in addition to other national, state and local agencies in accordance with the VA's five-year plan to put a stop to homelessness for veterans and their families.
Secretary Solis announced in June that 64 grants, which are separate from the 90 grants, would be distributed through HVRP. The first-year awards come to more than $15 million and are aimed at providing about 8,600 homeless veterans nationwide with job training.
