BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — First-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in Louisiana for the week ending July 21 fell from the previous week's total.
State labor department figures released Friday show initial claims fell to 3,080 from the previous week's total of 3,675. The figure was lower than it was for the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 4,123 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 3,543 from the previous week's total of 3,681.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending July 21 totaled 36,688, an increase from 36,268 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 35,954 from 35,550.
