SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A bill to collect a new licensing fee from Illinois hospitals to improve patient safety may be on its way back to the House floor.
Illinois Department of Public Health Deputy Director David Carvalho says some House lawmakers may not have understood that the Illinois Hospital Association supports the bill when they voted it down Sunday.
Belleville Democrat Jay Hoffman has filed a motion to reconsider that vote.

The measure would impose an annual license fee of $55 per hospital bed. The money would fund an 8-year-old Illinois patient safety law that hasn't been implemented because of the lack of funding. The fees also would support hiring more people to investigate complaints about hospitals.
The bill has passed in the Senate.
