A business consultancy and two social media firms found themselves at the top of the latest Glassdoor list of best places to work, for reasons that should make any HR manager swoon and bottom-line obsessed CFO happy, too.
As it turns out, Bain & Co, Twitter and LinkedIn are all great places to work, according to their employees, because they offer challenging work, an opportunity to work with highly talented folks and the chance to change the world.
In other words, compensation wasn't all that people cared about and certainly not enough to win any company a spot on Glassdoor's 2014 Employees' Choice Awards.

"Interesting, impactful work: There is rarely a boring day, much less a boring project. The problems we're solving are usually what's written in the WSJ about our client – big, complicated challenges, often challenges that are leading issues for that entire industry," one Bain employee wrote in a review on the Glassdoor website.
Of course, negative comments can be found for each of the companies on the list, too, but they definitely were outweighed by more positive ones.
Ratings are based on reviews from U.S.-based employees who participated in the survey between Nov. 14, 2012 and Nov. 12, 2013, with overall rankings determined based on the quantity, quality and consistency of reviews.
Employees are asked to rate how satisfied they are with their company overall, how they feel their CEO is leading the company, as well as key workplace attributes like career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, senior management and work-life balance. In addition, employees are asked whether they would recommend their employer to a friend, and what their opinion is on the company's business outlook in the next six months.
