Job seekers know that the talent wars are heating up, and they are becoming increasingly stubborn when it comes to making any sacrifices to accept a new job.

Monster revealed this momentum-gathering trend in a survey of 1,100 of its registered U.S. site users. Seven in 10 of those surveyed were actively looking for a new job – no surprise – that's what Monster's site is all about. But digging deeper into the responses, Monster confirmed what other surveys have shown: Most jobseekers want a new gig with all the trimmings.

Following are key components of a new job and the percentage of workers who would compromise their goals in order to get a job:

  • Health benefits – 13 percent;
  • Academic reimbursement – 14 percent;
  • Reduced vacation or personal time – 16 percent;
  • Reduced or no bonus – 19 percent;
  • Lower salary – 20 percent;
  • Work more hours – 24 percent;
  • Undertake a longer commute – 28 percent;
  • Agree to a strict dress code – 30 percent; and
  • Would accept a temporary or contract role – 33 percent.

"With the economy and job market slowly improving, job seekers will be more likely to be searching for a job and less likely to make sacrifices," said Jeffrey Quinn, vice president of Monster's Global Insights. "Employers need to be aware of these unsettled employees, understand their expectations and incent accordingly."
