Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to cut benefits to some part-time workers on Jan. 1, according to an Associated Press report.

Anyone working less than an average of 30 hours a week would be dumped, according to the story. The retailer blamed the shift on rising costs.

"The move, which would affect 30,000 employees, follows similar decisions by Target, Home Depot and others to eliminate health insurance benefits for part-time employees," according to the AP story.
