Not only are rising drug costs out of control, butsingles end up paying substantially more out of pocket than seniorcouples for nonrecurring health care services such as home healthcare, nursing home stays, overnight hospital stays, and outpatientsurgery.

That’s according to a report from the Employee Benefit ResearchInstitute, which analyzed out-of-pocket spending for households age 65 andolder found a major difference in trends between recurring healthcare services (such as doctor and dentist visits andprescription drugs) and nonrecurringexpenses.
