Laws to require paid sick leave are increasingly being debated around the country.

The Society for Human Resources Management reports that although there's no federal law requiring employers to offer paid sick leave to employees, eight states and the District of Columbia already do just that, and some cities also require private employers to extend paid sick leave to their workers.
