Millennials have a reputation for job-hopping, so what would keep them at a company? A recent Great Place to Work survey provides some insight into what this generation is looking for in a workplace. Some of the items on the millennial workplace wishlist—a safe atmosphere where they can be heard, post-pandemic flexibility, gender equity—may not be all that surprising. Ranking close to the top of the list, however, is a desire for benefits that go beyond acknowledging parenthood or elder care responsibilities. Being able to take time for pet care, or "pawternity leave," is an attractive option for millennials, according to the survey. Primarily, millennials are concerned with the alignment of pay and purpose. The survey revealed that millennials who don't feel they're getting fair compensation or experiencing meaning in their work are nearly four times likelier to leave their jobs than Boomers and 11 times likelier than Gen X workers. The companies on Fortune's Best Workplaces for Millennials 2021 are hitting most of this demographic's sweet spots. To determine the workplaces on the list, Great Place to Work provided over 60 survey questions to employees. Eighty-five percent of the evaluation was based on what millennials had to say about reaching their potential at their organizations, no matter what they do or who they are. The analysis also covered experiences of trust in the organizations. The remaining 15 percent of the evaluation was based on the company's values and the effectiveness of leadership, as well as daily experiences of innovation. The confidential feedback represents the experiences of more than 5.3 million people.
