In this episode, we chat with Josh Butler, President of Butler Benefits and High Plains Health Plan.
Josh discusses the growing number of innovative solutions and strategies flooding the benefits and health care markets, as well as the external forces that are currently reshaping our industry. He goes on to explain that the "real problems" in this industry and the obstacles holding back health care are not solvable by legacy plans or solutions. Instead, he focuses on fixing the underlying problems in health care. "Once you solve those problems, you can start to solve some of the issues we see in health insurance and health benefits," Josh shares.
As the conversation continues, we discuss the joys and headaches of being an innovator in an industry that is sometimes reluctant to change, as well as some of the encouraging signs that things might truly be shifting. We also dig into the importance of networking and in-person events, reminisce about Josh's time as the 2022 BenefitsPRO Advisor of the Year and preview the upcoming BenefitsPRO Broker Expo in Chicago. Josh also discusses the importance of having a professional (and personal) network, speaks about how "iron sharpens iron" and details the value of sharing strategies, ideas and concepts with other like-minded advisors and benefits professionals.
As always, we close out with a fun discussion about what he does to relax and refresh (stick around for the bourbon recommendations!) and a few things you might now know about a city that feels like a small town: Amarillo, Texas.
