In the second quarter of 2010, individual and family health savings account programs grew by a larger number than inthe first quarter of 2010, finds the the Consumer Driven HealthcareInstitute in its Q2'10 Consumer Driven Healthcare Market DataAdvisory.

Individual HSA programs grew an average of 6 percent over thefirst quarter, an increase of 4 percent in Q1'10 while family HSAprograms increased an average of 5 percent over the first quarter,a 4 percent gain from Q1'10.

"Following the passage of health care reform in Q1'10, consumeradoption of both individual and family health savings accountsagain began to accelerate," says Steve Parente, PhD, professor,Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and CDHCIAcademic Advisory Board chair. "As health care deductibles continueto rise and consumers become increasingly responsible forout-of-pocket health care costs, we believe this trend willcontinue with consumers seeking ways to maximize their pretaxdollars for use in current and future health-related spending andinvestment."
