AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A health insurance bill that's been vetoed by Maine Gov. Paul LePage is back in the Legislature, which must decide whether to sustain or override the veto.
The bill seeks to bar insurance companies from including clauses in their contracts with health care providers requiring them to give the insurers the lowest rates providers negotiate with any carrier.
The Portland Press Herald says doctors and physical therapists wanted the ban on such clauses, claiming they're anti-competitive. The bill received unanimous committee support.

LePage vetoed the bill, saying he believes businesses have a right to contract with each other as they deem appropriate. It was his first veto as governor.
Now, the Republican-controlled Legislature must decide whether to override the GOP governor's veto.
