Job openings throughout the U.S. have increased for the third consecutive month, with a 0.7 percent uptick month-over-month and 9 percent from last year, finds SimplyHired.com's October Employment Outlook.
Previously, job openings jumped 4.5 percent month-over-month and 16.5 percent year-over-year.
"Hiring remained stable this month, with a slight month-over-month increase and steady year-over-year growth," says Gautam Godhwani, CEO of SimplyHired.com. "Continued job growth is expected through the end of the year, especially in the retail industry due to seasonal hiring."

Of the 50 metro areas, 32 report an increased amount hiring this month from last month, and 43 of the 50 metros report year-over-year increases. Washington, D.C., is still the least competitive metro area with a one-to-one job competition ratio while Miami; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Las Vegas have the highest ratio at eight to one.
Among the 18 industries, 14 saw more job openings in September than August. Several industries, however saw decreases with education at a 5.9 percent loss, financial services at a 2.2 percent loss, hospitality at a 1.1 percent loss and technology at a 1.9 percent loss.
With seasonal hiring near, the retail industry reports a growth of 150.6 percent last month, and that is continuing this month to reach 132.9 percent. Retail sales jobs grew 8.8 percent this month, short of last month's 89.2 percent growth.
