Texas employers added 36,600 positions in October, marking its highest growth since January and making it the top state for job creation in the United States, according to data from job site Employment Crossing.
Much of the job creation is attributed to an improving state housing market and overall growth among consumer confidence, which has produced greater spending, the data finds. There are now 143,000 active job openings in Texas.
With these new positions, the Texas unemployment rate is down from 6.8 percent in September to 6.6 percent, both of which are lower than the national average of 7.9 percent. Nationally, 171,000 net jobs were created in October, meaning Texas accounted for nearly one-fifth of the new jobs.

Construction, health care and education especially contributed to the high growth rate in Texas, the data reveals. The improving housing market boosted the construction sector as 13,000 people gained employment. This also created a reactionary impacted in related industries, such as real estate firms and furniture sales.
The health care sector created 38,000 job openings while the sales and information technology sectors added 18,000 jobs, respectively, the data shows. The customer service sector brought in 8,000 jobs, and the retail sector generated 9,000 job opening.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, the unemployment rate hit just above 6 percent with 80,000 jobs.
