Victor O. Schinnerer & Co. has moved into workers' compensation, targeting small and mid-sized companies.

Its stand-alone coverage, offered through an A-rated carrier, will require a minimum premium of $5,000 and a maximum of $150,000.

It will market the line primarily at companies in the construction, transportation, health care, retail, manufacturing, restaurant and food manufacturing fields, the firm said.

Workers' compensation is becoming more challenging for employers to procure in certain states. Our competitive, stand-alone program helps to fill this market need," said Corrine Nunley, vice president of Schinnerer's property & casualty underwriting segments.

Based in Chevy Chase, Md., Schinnerer was founded in 1938 and built its business by underwriting policies for architects, engineers, surveyors and construction consultants.

The Schinnerer Group handles nearly $500 million in premiums on behalf of several carriers and through a network of more than 9,600 active brokers.
