For the second time in little more than a week, a group decrying the cost of public pensions has launched a website listing the benefits paid to about 50,000 former state and local government employees.

On Thursday, TransparentNevada.com followed a similarly named site in California. The Nevada Policy Research Institute was involved in both sites.

As in California, the Nevada information was not posted until after a legal battle was decided in favor of the institute. In fact, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that although the state Supreme Court ordered the Public Employees' Retirement System to release most of the pension data it had, only that from January was made available.

Because of that the Nevada Policy Research Institute, a self-described free market think tank that runs the website, said the annual pension benefits it listed are extrapolations. The pension system said monthly payments can vary throughout any given year.

Among the data on TransparentNevada.com are the fact that about a thousand retirees will receive more than $100,000 this year and 11 will get over $200,000. More than half of those who had worked for the state are slated to receive more than the top benefit paid by Social Security to a single individual with no dependents of $2,642.

In its latest annual report last June, the retirement system reported that the average monthly benefits paid in 2012 were $2,603 for most employees and $4,487 for police officers and firefighters.

The report said the pension fund had assets totaled $25 billion and that it was 71 percent funded against future liabilities. The system has about 98,000 active members.

The Nevada Policy Research Institute, said TransparentNevdada.com had bout 2 million page views last year. The site also lists salary and other employee benefits information.
