Consumer-driven health plans are increasingly helping controlcosts at companies that provide employee health insurance.

A wide-ranging SHRM study about strategic benefits found that 19percent of respondents that offer employee coverage saidconsumer-driven plans were the most effective means of controllingthe rising cost of health coverage. These plans include featureslike health reimbursement arrangements and health savingsaccounts.

Other methods cited that contributed to cost control: increasingthe employee share of cost (17 percent) and offering a range of PPOplans (16 percent).
