As Republicans step up their assault on Social Security and Medicare plans, seniors who care about such matters are feeling increasing heart throbs for the loyal opposition.
A survey by pollster Morning Consult found that, among seniors following the debate and view it as their top issue, vastly favor the Democratic agenda around the issues.
Among the No. 1 issue group—a block that is no doubt planning to vote—less than 20 percent said they trusted the GOP more than the Democrats on the issue. Just under half (47 percent) said they placed their trust in the position on Social Security and Medicare taken by the Democrats.

Now, Morning Consult offered a large caveat to the data. Only 22 percent said they had heard either quite a bit or at least something about the GOP's bill to change the Medicare payment formula, which would in all likelihood increase medical costs to seniors. The bill is the spear point of the GOP's strategy to save tax dollars by slashing benefits to the elderly.
When all seniors in the survey were asked about their party preferences and who they trusted more, it was a draw: 37 percent said they trusted Democrats more than Republicans, and 36 percent trusted the GOP more.
The poll also found that, among all seniors surveyed, older ones trusted Republicans over Democrats, while those between the ages of 65 to 74 said their trust was with Democrats by a 39 percent to 32 percent margin.
