Parental leave laws are everywhere these days, it seems, with 4.8 million people now having access to better paid leave benefits. It's not just new moms, either. Dads are also being given a chance to stay home with their new baby, and to do so for longer periods of time—although typically it's just been full-timers or salaried workers who have that opportunity.

But that's changing too, as 2018 saw more companies broaden the reach of parental leave benefits to allow more classes of workers to take advantage of the option. By the end of the year, more than half of the 57 largest employers tracked by paid leave advocacy organization PL+US offered the same amount of leave time to all classes of employees
