Looking to fill an open position? Good luck, as job openings continue to outnumber job seekers in today's labor market. There are some jobs, however, that are harder to fill than others. To know how much of a challenge you're up against, check out CareerCast's Most In-Demand Jobs for 2019. For its list of the most in-demand jobs, or "the toughest jobs to fill," the firm listed the jobs with the highest percentage of job openings, using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. Related: Power shifts to the job seeker in today's hiring market "In 2018, the U.S. labor market offered more openings than there were job seekers," says Kyle Kensing, CareerCast's online content editor. "2019 arrives with some economic uncertainty, but continuing trends in the labor market offer insight into which jobs will have the highest demand for the new year." Application software developers topped CareerCast's list this year due to the exploding popularly of mobile apps outpacing the number of professionals who can produce them. However, the industry with the most in-demand jobs is health care. Home health aides in particular are the toughest to fill, and the outlook for this position is great: the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects there to be 47 percent growth in home health jobs through 2024.
